What the number means

Backlink totals are a starting point

A backlink is a link from another site to yours. Referring domains count the different sites that link to you. One site can add many backlinks, so the two totals are different.

Backlinks

Links pointing to the domain

Referring domains

Different sites that link to it

The data is an estimate from a web-link index. A small or missing result does not prove a site has no backlinks or that its links are harmful.

Questions people ask

Is the backlink checker free?: Yes. Visitors can request one fresh check per network every 24 hours. The public tool runs up to three new checks each day, and it reuses a saved report for up to seven days.
Why can the report be unavailable?: The data source may be busy, or the site may not have a usable report. An unavailable report does not mean the domain has zero backlinks.
Does a backlink count show link quality?: No. A total does not tell you whether a link is useful, relevant, or safe. Review the linking page and context before you take action.
How do I see the linking sites?: The free preview shares backlink totals only. The full backlink review shows referring domains and link details for a site saved in RankMySEO.
