Social credits and everyday lookups

A social lookup spends from one of two monthly counts, on top of the daily calls in Allowance. Everyday lookups are the larger count. They cover the tools marked Everyday lookup under each platform below: post numbers, recent posts, comments, and short videos on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, among others, and every marketplace, app store, market, and news lookup. Every other lookup spends social credits. Most tools cost 1. Comment themes cost 2 and an engagement audit costs 5, so the audit starts on Growth. A lookup that fails costs nothing. Both counts open again on the 1st of each month, UTC. Each lookup row says which one it spends in allowance.

Saved answers and hard refresh

Every answer is kept for the time in the Kept column below. Until then, asking the same thing again returns the saved answer and spends nothing.

To read it again sooner, send "refresh": true. That spends the tool's cost again. If the answer was read less than an hour ago, you get it back with spent: 0 and refreshOpensAt, the time a refresh opens. A lookup that is still running is never charged twice.

Run a lookup

Every platform above goes through the same Run a social lookup route: send a tool id and one of its platforms. On MCP the same lookups are the social_research tool, and saved ones are read with social_lookups; see MCP setup.

What comes back when a lookup cannot run

400invalid_requestThe tool is not on that platform, or the input is not one the tool takes. The message says what the input looks like.

403plan_limitThe month's count is used. processAt is when it opens again and upgrade names the next plan.

409unavailableSocial lookups are not switched on for this server.

429rate_limitedToo many lookups in a minute (ask again shortly), or the month's shared allowance is paused, in which case processAt says when it opens.

A lookup that starts and then cannot finish ends as failed and costs nothing. Marketplace, app store, ad, market, and news lookups are tried once or twice and not moved to another source.

POSTRun a social lookup/social/researchAsks one tool on one platform. No site is needed; lookups belong to your account. A saved answer that is still current comes back at no cost. A new answer spends the tool's credits and answers collect queued; read it with GET a minute later. Starter and above.

Hard refresh. Reads it again although the saved answer is current, and spends the credits. Within an hour of the last reading you get the saved answer and refreshOpensAt instead.
