Pick which keywords your site should target next

Your assistant builds a short list of keywords. Each one has a page type, an owner page, a reason, and a status that shows whether it was checked. Nothing is tracked until you pick it.

Example

You ask

My site already gets some clicks. What should I target next? Use the last 28 days of Search Console.

The assistant

Your assistant reads the top queries from search_console and your tracked positions from list_keywords. It lists the closest wins first, separates brand queries, and returns a table with a type, owner page, and status for each keyword. It tracks nothing until you pick.

Use it when

  • You are planning a new site and need its first keywords chosen before a plan is written.
  • Your site already gets search clicks, and you ask what to target next.
  • A rival ranks for a keyword, and you want to know whether it fits your business.

You give it

  • For a new site: your product, place, goal, and your customers' own words. These are a hypothesis, and the plan says so.
  • For a live site: Search Console access, through RankMySEO or a direct connection, so your assistant can read what people already search.
  • A saved site and a country. Keyword tools need a saved site and take a country and a language, which default to the site's settings.

It returns

  • A table with keyword, type, owner page, source, volume and difficulty where shown, relevance decision, and tracking status.
  • Each keyword marked validated, hypothesis, or dropped, with a reason for every drop.
  • A question asking which keywords you want tracked. Only the ones you pick are added.

How the skill runs

  1. Start from the evidence

New site: begin with your intake, and label the result a hypothesis. Live site: begin with search_console for 28 days, which gives the top queries with clicks, impressions, CTR, and position.

  2. Choose and validate keywords

Choose a primary keyword and three to five alternates. Check each with keyword_planner using the country from your intake, and read until status is ready. Show volume and difficulty only where they appear.

  3. Rank the candidates

Read tracked rank with list_keywords and keyword_history: positions 4 to 10 are the closest wins, 11 to 20 need more work. For lower positions read Search Console; many impressions at 30 or lower often mean a wrong or thin page.

  4. Read the competitor gap

Once the rival is saved and collected, keyword_gap lists keywords it ranks for that your site does not. Use it to find gaps. Never pick a keyword only because a rival ranks for it.

  5. Check content and brand queries

research_site returns keyword clusters found for the site. They are suggestions, so check each against your pages. Keep brand queries in their own group, since they measure brand demand, and do not count them as new targets.

  6. Apply the relevance check

Keep a keyword only if it describes what you sell or publish, fits your country and language, and a page you will build or keep can answer it. Show the drop list, with a reason for each drop.

  7. Classify and ask which to track

Give each kept keyword one type: money, tool, hub, or informational. A page that already ranks keeps its keyword, and a new page links to it. Then ask which keywords to track.

Where it stops

  • Your assistant does not estimate volume, difficulty, or position. Where a number is missing, the table says unknown.
  • Your assistant tracks only the keywords you pick, and it adds each one with add_keyword after your yes.
  • research_site starts a website review when none has run yet. That uses the daily research budget, so your assistant asks you first.
  • social_research needs Starter or above, and each new answer spends from your monthly allowance. Your assistant checks social_lookups for a saved answer first.

Questions before you install

Can I trust the volume numbers in the table?

Only where a tool returns them. keyword_planner shows volume and difficulty where they appear. Anything it does not return is marked unknown, and your assistant does not fill the gap with an estimate.

Will your assistant track every keyword it finds?

No. It tracks only the keywords you pick, and it adds each one after your yes.

How are brand searches handled?

They stay in their own group. Brand queries show brand demand, so they do not count as new keyword targets.
