Plan

Plan a new site's search strategy before it is built

Your assistant asks a few short questions, writes your business brief back for you to confirm, and checks keywords with RankMySEO. You end with a page map that shows which page answers each search.

Example

You ask

I am starting an invoicing tool for freelance designers in the US. Plan the search side before I build the site.

The assistant

Your assistant asks a few short questions, writes a brief for you to confirm, and checks keywords with keyword_planner once the site is saved. It returns the keyword table with a reason for each drop, a page map, and a site structure diagram.

Use it when

  • You want a new site and have an idea, but no keywords or page list yet.
  • A site is being planned, and nobody has decided which page answers which search.
  • You have no SEO background. The skill explains each step with one example.

You give it

  • Your product or service in one sentence, and the country or city you aim at first.
  • One to three competitors you know well. Your assistant checks each name, since a name can be wrong.
  • Your goal, sales or sign-ups, or visitors. Your domain, if you have one.

It returns

  • A business brief that you confirm or correct before the plan goes on.
  • A keyword table with the primary keyword, alternates, intent, validation status, and any dropped keyword with its reason.
  • A page map with one main keyword per page, and a site structure diagram you can read at a glance.
  • A plan file you keep, with URL rules, open questions, and next steps.

How the skill runs

  1. Ask a few short questions

Ask one or two at a time, and skip any you already know. Every question can be skipped. Ask no more than eight, covering product, place, competitor, goal, domain, and your SEO level.

  2. Write the brief back

Summarize the product, reader, place, goal, and competitor in one short paragraph. Wait for your confirmation or correction before going on.

  3. Choose and validate keywords

Pick a primary keyword and three to five alternates, each with an intent label. Once the site is saved, check each one with keyword_planner until status is ready, and drop any keyword that a different kind of page answers.

  4. Classify pages and set the mix

Your goal sets the page mix. Give each keyword one type: money, tool, hub, or informational. Give each cluster one owner page, and write a brief for each page before anyone drafts it.

  5. Map topics and structure

Give each topic cluster one hub, with spokes that link to it. Record each page's job, main keyword, intent, and links. Draw the site structure map as a Mermaid diagram, which is separate from sitemap.xml.

  6. Set the URL rules

Use subfolders for sections, and short, readable slugs with no dates or database IDs. Every page needs a link from another page. Any URL changed later needs a 301 redirect.

  7. Write the plan file

Save one markdown file with the brief, keyword table, page map, structure diagram, URL rules, and open questions. Next steps are seo-site-setup, then seo-go-live-check.

Where it stops

  • Do not plan many similar pages from one template unless each page has facts that exist only for it. Swapping a city name does not make a new page. Start with a few pages, then add more after Search Console shows them indexed and getting impressions.
  • Keyword tools need a saved site and take a country code. City-level volume is not available, so your assistant does not guess it.
  • Only the keywords you pick are tracked. Your assistant adds them with add_keyword after your yes.
  • The plan does not guarantee rankings or traffic. A plan copied from competitors' pages copies their gaps, so start from your buyers' questions.

Questions before you install

Do I need SEO experience to use this?

No. The skill is written for an owner with no SEO background. It explains each step with one example, and if you already know SEO, each step stays short.

Does your assistant build the pages for me?

No. RankMySEO does not build pages. The plan says which pages to build and why, and each page gets a brief before anyone drafts it.

Will the plan name my rivals on my site?

Only with your say. Your assistant asks before it names a rival on the site. A comparison page states only rival facts that can be checked, with the date they were checked.
